Signals sent out by the mystery transmitter are in code, but the last message has been partly decoded, and seems to contain the name 'Braganza'. Two agents from the Hong Kong station tell John Drake that Braganza is the name of a crippled Portuguese nerve specialist who suddenly disappeared about two years ago.
