In the middle of the night, Drake is suddenly wakened by a sound. Almost before he has time to roll from his bed, a Malay seaman armed only with a narrow silk scarf is attempting to throttle him. Drake knows that is useless to fight against the scarf; instead he goes for the fingers that are holding it, and coolly breaks the hold.
