Born in Cardiff on January 11th 1911, George Benson appeared in the fifty-minute Danger Man episode 'Have a Glass of Wine' as the French Police Chief. According to books I have read, Benson's voice was dubbed in the episode by Robert Rietty. Benson went onto to star in The Prisoner episode 'Free For All' playing the Labour Exchange Manager.
He made his film debut in the 1932 film Holiday Lovers. His impressive list of film credits includes Convoy, The October Man, The Happiest Days of Your Life, Cage of Gold, The Man in The White Suit and Doctor in The House. On television he appeared in The Avengers, Danger Man, David Copperfield, The Forsyte Saga and Jason King as well as such diverse programmes as Jackanory, Here Come The Double Deckers and The Goodies.
Benson retired after playing William Fryer in 16 episodes of Harriet's Back in Town in 1973. He died aged 72 on June 17th 1983. |
