Born Richard Caldicott-Bull in London on October 7th 1908, Richard appears in two fifty-minute episodes of Danger Man before appearing as The Commander in The Prisoner episode 'Many Happy Returns'. He enjoyed a long and successful acting career, often playing figures of authority, such as military officers, judges and members of the aristocracy and is also well known for his role of Commander Povey in the BBC Radio series The Navy Lark.
His film roles included appearances in The Million Pound Note, Room At The Top, The Case of Mr Pelham, Dentist on The Job and The Spy Who Came In From The Cold and on television, he was always in demand, featuring in such series as The Verdict Is Yours, The History of Mr Polly, Oliver Twist, Steptoe & Son, The VIPs, HMS Paradise, No Hiding Place, Danger Man, The Beverley Hillbillies, The Avengers, On The Buses, Department S, Randall & Hopkirk, Fawlty Towers and Coronation Street, though probably one of his best remembered appearances was as the obstetrician who delivered Betty Spencer's baby in Some Mothers Do 'Ave 'Em.
Caldicott died the week after his 87th birthday on October 16th 1995. |
