EPISODE DETAILS:

The 31st fifty-minute episode was written by the same author as ‘The Galloping Major’ where Drake’s previous outing in an African colony was going through the painful throes of independence. David Stone’s script is the closest thing so far that Danger Man has had to a sequel, a feeling reinforced by the use of some of the same ethnic actors as before.
In ‘Loyalty Always Pays’ Drake’s mission is to learn whether the African nations Defence Minister ‘Enugu’ has agreed a secret arms deal with the Chinese and needs to penetrate the Ministry building which is heavily guarded by Major Barrington and his men.
Drake identifies Barrington as a ‘weak link’, but although reduced to the status of a security guard, Barrington still conducts his duties with polished military precision. So, similar to the first series’ episode ‘Position of Trust’’, Drake has to identify his weaknesses in order to gain a hold over him.
Recently the location of the building used as the Defence Ministry was identified; David Nicholas of BP writes “From having worked at Sunbury in the late 80’s/early 90’s I know that building well. It was called ‘Poplar House’ and was where the senior management of the site, which was then BP’s main research centre, were housed. I didn’t visit it often.”
“The whole research centre has now been renamed ‘The International Centre for Business and Technology’ and that building was redeveloped unrecognisably a few years ago.”
‘Loyalty Always Pays’ was the fifth episode to be made at Shepperton Studios, filmed between Friday 18th June and Friday 2nd July 1965.
